Thijs Van de Graaf is Professor of International Politics at Ghent University, where he obtained his PhD in 2012. He is also affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, the Colorado School of Mines, and the United Nations University. In 2011, he was a visiting researcher at Princeton University.
He specializes in international energy policy and in particular the oil and gas markets, climate policy, hydrogen and the geopolitical effects of the energy transition. His latest book, Global Energy Politics, will be published in 2020. He was also the lead author of two reports on the geopolitics of the energy transition for the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Thijs is a frequent speaker and is regularly interviewed by Belgian and international media, including New York Times, Bloomberg, Financial Times, Euronews, Wall Street Journal, and The Gulf. His research has been cited in media outlets such as the Guardian, The Independent, and the Washington Post.
