In France, Gort (as a Dutchman of note) was selected as one of the best wine farmers in France. At the ‘International Wine Challenge in London’, his wine was named ‘Best Bordeaux Wine 2003’! His rosé ‘La Tulipe’ was named the best rosé in France at the French ‘Councours des Oenologues’ in 2005.
Ilja Gort is also a successful writer. His first book, “Living like Gort in France,” is an extraordinarily humorous book about his experiences among wine farmers in the southern French countryside. It became an instant bestseller and has since sold more than 250,000 copies. Many books followed, including three successful novels. In addition, Ilja Gort has his own television program ‘Gort’s Wine Quarter’ on NPO2 and makes (also for Avrotros) a series of well-reviewed travel programs ‘Gort over de Grens’.
