About Ice-T

In the mid-80s, Ice was one of the defining voices of West Coast hip-hop and black youth, and is credited as the godfather of gangsta rap. His early albums — including Rhyme Pays (1987) and Power (1988) — carved out his place in the rap world, while his 1991 record O.G. Original Gangster layered authenticity, social commentary and artistic fearlessness. It also added the term “OG” in the world’s lexicon.

Not content to remain within one genre, Ice-T co-founded the heavy-metal band Body Count in 1990, combining his hip-hop roots with rock’s raw energy, and sparking national controversy with the track “Cop Killer”.

That boldness transcended music and set the stage for an acting career of equal substance: since 2000 he has portrayed Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola on the long-running television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, becoming the longest-serving male actor on a primetime drama.
