About Eduardo Fernãndez

Eduardo has been working in technology almost two decades, last 15 years within the wireless industry, smartphones and mobile internet.

He defines himself as a digital emigrant with analog values, a nerd and one of the technofreak pioneers of the X generation.

He had his first introduction to computers with a Commodore 64, back in the 80s, a 64Kb machine running a 1 MHz processor. He became an amateur hacker at that time.

Eduardo is Vice-president, Mediterranean area, at Research in Motion, the company who created BlackBerry. He joined RIM in 2007 with the mission of extending BlackBerry products and services from corporate to consumer world.

In 2011, amid strong recession, BlackBerry achieved 192% year on year growth, and ranked number one smartphone brand in our market according to Canalys. 1 out of every 2 smartphones sold in consumer prepay was a BlackBerry.

That year, the financial newspaper, El Economista, in its annual poll, ranked Eduardo as the second best executive in the Spanish telco sector.

Eduardo is a telecom engineer, has a Master from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Instituto de Empresa, and, as he likes to say, he also has a typewriting diploma which enabled him to communicate much faster than average human beings.

He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, serving as chair of communications, he is a fellow member of the Internet Society Club and belongs to the scientific committee of El Ser Creativo. Eduardo is associate professor at Menendez Pelayo University, the Digital Economy Institute ICEMD-ESIC and of Master in Business and Telecom Law of Cremades&Calvo Sotelo law firm.

Eduardo has led different start up initiatives in the mobile internet and applications arena, and is board member and independent advisor to some of them.
