Meteen daarna gaat hij zitten alsof er niets aan de hand is. Sommige vrouwtjes en jonge\u00a0mannen komen op de leider afgelopen, rustig en met het hoofd naar beneden gebogen, ondertussen zachte geluidjes makend. De alfa-man neemt deze blijken van onderdanigheid op zijn gemak in ontvangst. Iedereen kent zijn plek in de groep. En dat mag wat de leider betreft waarschijnlijk nog wel een tijdje zo blijven.<\/p>\n<h2>Brute kracht of politiek correct?<\/h2>\n<p>Wat maken wij wetenschappelijk gezien\u00a0op uit dit soort waarnemingen? Onderzoek dat sinds de jaren zestig in de natuurlijke leefomgeving en in dierentuinen en onderzoekscentra met chimpansees plaatsvindt, laat ons zien dat het vertonen van imponeergedrag, zoals onze alfa-man Mikkie dat liet zien, een belangrijke rol speelt in het verkrijgen en behouden van een leidende positie. Het voorbeeld van chimp Mikkie laat zien dat uiterlijk vertoon van kracht de andere apen in de groep dwingt tot onderdanig gedrag. Er zijn echter ook voorbeelden van leiders die hun macht op een meer subtiele manier verkrijgen en behouden door het bedrijven van politiek. De Nederlandse primatoloog Frans de Waal heet dit zeer beeldend beschreven in zijn boek \u2018Chimpansee Politiek\u2019, gebaseerd op zijn jarenlange onderzoek naar de chimpansees in het Arnhemse Burgers\u2019 Zoo. Het aangaan van verbonden met concurrerende (jonge) mannen, het op subtiele wijze steun verlenen aan hooggeplaatste vrouwen, het kwetsbaar durven opstellen in de groep, heet betrouwbare leiders opgeleverd. Wetenschappelijk onderzoek heet zelfs aangetoond dat de leiders die door het bedrijven van politiek aan de macht komen, langer hun positie behouden en op meer steun kunnen rekenen, dan de leiders die met brute kracht en agressie hun leiderschap opeisen.<\/p>\n<h2>T=R-V<\/h2>\n<p>Imponeergedrag kent dus meerdere verschijningsvormen.\u00a0Imponeren op basis van inhoud en kennis blijkt een goede tegenhanger te zijn van imponeren op basis van uiterlijk vertoon en brute kracht. En het mooie is, beide vormen kunnen leiden tot tevreden klanten. Het is daarom goed om te begrijpen welk effect de twee vormen van imponeergedrag bioLOGISCH gezien op potenti\u00eble klanten heet. De vertaling is even simpel als effectief en in een formule te vatten: Tevredenheid is gelijk aan het Resultaat minus de Verwachting, ofwel T = R &#8211; V. Tevredenheid staat voor het goede gevoel dat we ergens aan over houden, onze motivatie om bepaald gedrag te vertonen. Wanneer we in staat zijn het resultaat positief te sturen, dan wel de verwachting goed te managen, lukt het om positieve tevredenheid te realiseren. Wanneer imponeren door uiterlijk vertoon en brute kracht niet\u00a0leidt tot een tevreden (interne) klant , probeer\u00a0het dan eens minder opvallend en meer op\u00a0inhoud en kennis. Dus ontdek de Mikkie in jezelf of laat hem juist even los.
