A great historian who is always relevant to contemporary thinking and contemporary problems<\/em><\/p>\n

Dr Andrew Roberts took a first class honours degree in Modern History at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, from where he is an honorary senior scholar and a PhD. He has written or edited sixteen books, which have been translated into twenty-two languages, and his last three were New York Times bestsellers. Roberts appears regularly on radio and television around the world. He writes for The Sunday Telegraph and reviews history books and biography for that newspaper as well as The Spectator, Literary Review, Mail on Sunday, The Wall Street Journal, Weekly Standard, Commentary, and National Review. Dr Henry Kissinger has said: \u2018Andrew Roberts is a great historian who is always relevant to contemporary thinking and contemporary problems.\u2019<\/p>\n

In 2018 he published Churchill: Walking with Destiny, which has been hailed by twelve newspapers including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and the Sunday Times of London as the best single-volume biography of Winston Churchill ever written. It has sold over a quarter of a million copies, been translated into twelve languages, won the Council on Foreign Relations Arthur Ross Prize and has taken Roberts to six countries on a speaking tour, including 26 states of the USA.<\/p>\n

Of his other books, Salisbury: Victorian Titan, the authorized biography of the Victorian prime minister the 3rd Marquess of Salisbury, won the Wolfson History Prize and the James Stern Silver Pen Award for Non-Fiction. Hitler and Churchill: Secrets of Leadership became the basis for a four-part BBC2 history series. The publication of A History of the English-Speaking Peoples Since 1900 brought him an invitation to the White House in February 2007, where he delivered the prestigious White House Lecture. Masters and Commanders won the Emery Reves Award of the International Churchill Society and was shortlisted for The Duke of Westminster\u2019s Gold Medal for Military History and The British Army Military Book Award, both of Britain\u2019s top two military history prizes. The Storm of War reached number two on The Sunday Times bestseller list and won the British Army Military Book Award for 2010. Napoleon (2014) won the Grand Prix of the Fondation Napol\u00e9on and the Los Angeles Times book award.<\/p>\n

Dr Roberts is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Historical Society, the Lehrman Distinguished Fellow at the New-York Historical Society, a visiting professor at the War Studies Department of King\u2019s College, London, and the Roger and Martha Mertz visiting reader at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
