Born in Germany but a Welsh lad at heart, Mikey Kay grew up on the beaches of Anglesey, and in the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park.\u00a0 Retiring as a senior officer in the British military in 2012, after 20 years of flying assault helicopters with 10 tours of duty under his belt. Today, Mikey is a presenter, a filmmaker, and Good Morning Britain’s Security analyst\/correspondent.<\/p>\n
In early 2012, Mikey emigrated to New York to pursue a new career as a foreign affairs reporter. Purchasing a Canon 1D Mk4 and 50mm Prime lens, he started from scratch, learning how to shoot through the medium of Street Style at fashion week. He was noticed by a Vogue Fashion Director and soon found himself producing, filming, and editing fashion videos with some of the biggest super models in fashion today.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Mikey’s knowledge, experience and analysis of foreign policy, defense, terrorism and aviation related matters made him a go-to for NBC, CNN, Fox News, Huffington Post and Sky News, covering some of the biggest breaking news stories in contemporary history, including: the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, missing Malaysian Boeing 777, MH370, Jihadi John, German Wings, the shooting down of MH17 and a myriad of Islamic State related news events.<\/p>\n
Over the last four years, Mikey has become an accomplished story-teller, filmmaker, editor and broadcaster.\u00a0 Covering the Syrian conflict and jihad, from NBC Headquarters in New York and on location in Lebanon, including regular trips to the Syrian border, interviews with radical clerics, Hezbollah, and the FSA. \u00a0Mikey has also travelled to central Asia, the U.K, and all over the U.S reporting and producing for companies including National Geographic, History Channel, CNN, MSNBC and Dow Jones.<\/p>\n
Mikey\u2019s portfolio is expanding rapidly of late. His show ‘Buried: Knights Templar’ and the ‘Holy Grail’, premiered on the History Channel U.S in January 2018, alongside the final of the scripted drama, ‘Knightfall’. ‘Buried’ came to the UK on History Channel during the Summer. At the same time, National Geographic tapped Mikey to lead a number of their more dangerous International stories on their acclaimed and newly formatted Explorer show. And to finish off 2018, Mikey hosted a season of short documentaries with CNN and General Electrics, traveling to Ethiopia, Saudi, UAE, Oman, China and Pakistan, to investigate how electricity is transforming lives in developing countries.<\/p>\n
Mikey also spent 2017 and 2018 reporting for ABC News as their breaking news reporter in Paris and Northern Europe, and is currently ITV Good Morning Britain’s Security Correspondent\/Analyst.<\/p>\n
The beginning of 2019 has seen Mikey preparing his film for\u00a0the\u00a0big screen, on the life of his severely autistic brother\u00a0\u2014 ‘My\u00a0Autistic Big Brother and Me\u2019, airs on BBC Wales March 2019. The film focuses on the social stigmas of the severely challenged in our society – it took three years to make and Mikey produced, filmed, wrote and edited the film.<\/p>\n
In the world of entertainment, Mikey has presented shows for: CNN, Travel Channel (‘Top of the World’, ‘YOLO’ and ‘World’s Edge’), ‘Saving Heroes’ on AHC, ‘Archaic Festivals’ on Red Bull, and History Channel’s ‘Ultimate Soldier Challenge’.\u00a0 In the last 18 months Mikey has presented across the world, including Siberia, Greenland, Haiti, Vietnam, Colombia, South Africa, Nicaragua, Japan and the U.K.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
