About Ana MarI­a Llopis

Ana María Llopis is a visionary innovative entrepreneur with a wealth of experience and expertise in new technologies and finance. Ana María Llopis created ideas4all and Openbank – the later being the first and leading Internet bank in Spain and part of Banco Santander.

Ana María has great experience in new technologies and the Internet and has a unique way of looking at things. She founded Open Bank, the branchless internet bank of Spanish Santander Group and served as its Chief Executive Officer from 1993 to 2000. Furthermore, she served for another leading bank in Spain: Banesto, from 1988 to 1991, where she served as Associate General Manager of Branch Network, Marketing and Quality for Retail Banking. From 1978 to 1983, she held various marketing positions at Procter & Gamble to be followed by a career as Distribution and Marketing Manager at Playtex in Spain until 1987 where she played an important role in its turnaround. Ana María´s career was followed at NET TV – here she fulfilled the role of non- executive Director representing Viaplus interests. As Executive Chairman and CEO of Viaplus she created the first e-store in Spain. In her longstanding career in banking, she also served as a Member of Supervisory Board of The Royal Bank of Scotland N.V. (formerly, ABN AMRO Bank N.V.) in 2007.

Besides her leading roles in numerous innovative companies, she is also vice-president of the José Félix Llopis Latin American Art Foundation, and has been a part of the Board of Consultants for Electronic Administration to the Spanish Ministry of Public Administrations since 2006.

Ana María has received recognition and awards such as the International Women’s Forum “Women who make a difference” award 2007, in Chicago. Leader of the IWF leadership program 2007-2008, she was also mentioned by The Times as one of the 100 most influential executives in the UK, and, in 2005, The Mail ranked her 24th on its list of most influential women in the UK. She won Openbank’s Award for Financial Executive of the year in 1995, and Institut Catalá’s Donna award in 1997, as well as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001.

She has been part of national and international conferences, Meetings, MBAS, Business Forums and Universities. Moreover, Ana María has written articles for several Spanish newspapers and Magazines as well as chapters on Corporate Governance and Women in the Spanish economy.
