About Jan Herman Brinks

Dr. Brinks has worked on modern and contemporary European and German history for 25 years. He has published books and articles in a range of journals of international provenance

After he received his PhD (cum laude) in 1991 he held research appointments at several renowned universities and research centres, like, for example, Birkbeck College (London), the Centre for German-Jewish Studies (Sussex), European Research Institute (Bath), AICGS – John Hopkins University (Washington DC), Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung (Potsdam) and the Institute of European Studies (Berkeley).

He gives lectures on contemporary political-cultural developments at home and abroad.

Dr. Brinks is co-author of Nationalist Myths and Modern Media. Contested Identities in the Age of Globalization in which he explains the influence of nationalist myths on modern media. A paperback edition of this book will be published in 2012.

At the beginning of 2013 his novel De Schreeuw van de Vlinder (The Cry of the Butterfly) was published by de Brouwerij – Brainbooks. More information on the publisher’s website.
