Danny Mekic has been chosen the Netherlands: ‘most successful young entrepreneur of the year.

Next to running his own internet company (Employing 10 people) which he founded when he was 15, he actively teaches at universities and colleges. He is also active as investor, mediator, consultant for new business and new media, legal advisor, and commentator. He also regularly takes part in roundtable discussions on national radio as one of the panel members of a group of economists.

How do you go about founding a successful company at a young age (And being responsible for managing it too) while combining this with working on your self-development, while at the same time remaining inspired and focussed on developing your own business network. How important is academic development and self actualization for young entrepreneurs?

What ‘s it like to work for top corporate executives of listed (Fortune 500) companies while still in your twenties. What do social media contribute to networking and general management of large companies, and (how) can social media be used for quality control and product and service improvements?

Mekic says, “Social media is more than having a twitter account”, he does not call himself a social media expert, but instead considers himself a social media architect. In which he assists (the) big players in the market as a consultant.

Mekic quit high school before graduating in order to work fulltime on his (own) company. At age twenty he was accepted into the Law Honours programme at the University of Amsterdam, attaining twice the credits required. Within a year he was standing in front of the class as a teacher, while also becoming a member of the student affairs committee. His third year he complemented with subjects from the Communication Sciences, Economics and Psychology, fields of study which he tries to link to technology, media and communication.

He wrote for the Dutch Financial Times(Finacieele Dagblad), and was declared the most successful young Dutch person by the Quote and Elsevier Magazines. He advises large companies on their transformation, using new business models.

On top of this Mekic has extensive experience in dealing with the media. In October 2003 he went on television to make the case for keeping the broadcaster BNN on public television – he made the case together with BNN’s director. He also could be seen on a regular basis on TV on the weekly debating show: ‘Young House of Commons’. When in 2009 the website of the defaulting DSB Bank became inaccessible, resulting in large numbers of its customers not being able to draw their money. He was invited by the News programme NOVA as an internet expert to comment. Always moving ahead and keeping busy, he is currently writing a book intended as a manuel for young entrepreneurs that are starting up a business. Finally Danny Mekic can regularly be seen on the early morning breakfast show: ‘Ochtendspits’, on at 07:00 – 09:00 (every morning), where he is part of both the Internet and Youth panel.
