About Gustaaf Geeraerts

Gustaaf Geeraerts is Professor of International Relations and is specialized in China, China’s foreign policy identity and the Chinese perception of the EU as global actor, recently he published his book China: Myth or Miracle. His present research is at the Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies.

He is also the Dean of the Faculty of Economic, Social and Political Sciences & Solvay Business School and the Director of the Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies (BICCS), both at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Besides that he holds an Honorary Professorship at the University of Kent at Canterbury, and is an Editorial Board member of Global Society: Journal of Interdisciplinary International Relations.

Since 1999 professor Gustaaf Geeraerts holds a Guest Professorship in Political Science at the Renmin University in Beijing. From 1986 to 1990 he was located at the Department of International Relations at the State University of Utrecht where he was specialized in research on the dynamics of international political processes. During that period he was also a member of the Board of Lecturers of the Centre for Advanced Research in International Affairs in the Netherlands (CARIAN).

His present research interests centre on international relations theory and contemporary China studies.
